Financials

  • Our monthly rent is going up by $150 due to rising property tax. Jerry will work out exactly how much we owe later, for now the increase is $150.

  • Brad provided an update on the Laser "In for $10" drive. Almost $3k has been pledged, about half of which has already been collected. It was noted that donations can be returned if the "In for $10" fails.

Current Members: 86

  • John and Dave attended and set up a table at Hamfest, a ham radio gathering held at the fair grounds. John said they talked to about 3 dozen interested people.

Tool Area Updates

  • Auto Shop - Has a new transmission jack and screw jack

  • Metal Shop - Enco Mill is now working, needs some lubrication

  • Vacuum Former - This is now working!

  • Laser Area - A new tube was just installed

  • Thanks to Chris, there is now a work bench in the Electronics room specifically for stained glass work. He also mounted the wire rack on the wall so it is up and out of the way.

  • Jason will soon be taking home his various Wood Shop equipment soon.

  • There is a knitting machine still up for grabs for the low, low price of just-take-it-home!

  • One of the new members is using the sewing machines for cosplay stuff!

  • 3D Printing - There are 3 Prusas up and running, plus a delta style machine almost up and running. All have WiFi access to status, and models can be sent to them to print from anywhere on the premises.

Miscellaneous Updates

  • It was asked if we're still looking to move to a new location. The answer is no. At one time our landlord seemed to indicate that he was going to want our portion of the building back for his business, but he has since stopped talking about that at all.

  • We received sad news. Jay Byers unexpectedly passed away. (Link to obituary) He was a former president of Simpson College, member of the Greater Des Moines Partnership, and a big supporter of the maker space. He had even held one of the partnership's meetings in our present location.

  • The most recent Space Clean Up Night was attended by a "small but mighty" group of volunteers. New members are always encouraged to attend these.
